My good friend

My first memory of you Martin was when I joined the under 16 s football team and you were the manager. The remarkable thing about the team was , most of the players were all over 20, in fact they could well be Fathers of our apponents and probably were. You had a lot of success with the team although we didn’t win anything, it was a remarkable achievement how you got away with most of the team in their 20.s. You were a really good mate of mine for many years, when you started work in Mac’s garage on the Locking Road you would often treat me to the cinema. Also with your beloved Sunbeam Rapier we would go on holidays, I remember going to St Ives with a car full of mates and various other places you would take us. Another trip that just you and I went on was to Jersey, it was aboard an old World War 1 hospital ship, it was so crowded we had to sleep on deck. You had met this girl on board and you were getting on very well under the blankets provided. Unfortunately for you Martin you got very sea sick, you always put it down to a missed opportunity. When we arrived in Jersey you still wasn’t well for a couple of days, but when you recovered it was make up time. I remember the time you used to get me to ask certain girls you liked to go out with you, the annoying thing was for me I liked them too, but I couldn’t let you down because you had been so good to me. I want to thank you Martin for being a really good mate for all those years, lots of laughs and good times which I will always cherish. God bless you my friend , Roger.
